Now Spring is finally here if you have not completed the general maintenance of your asphalt driveway and parking lot, you could be in for a surprise by unexpected Spring showers! Let us explain.
If you suspect cracks, potholes or depressions on your asphalt, we highly recommend speaking to asphalt paving professionals to prevent further damages. The longer asphalt is in contact with water, the higher of a chance of it to slowly deteriorate. If the water does get under the structural layers of your pavement, which will cause the cracks to grow bigger and start to cause more damage. And before you know it, your pavement will be filled with alligator cracks, leaving you with an unsafe pavement.
The main reason for sealcoating asphalt pavement is to protect the pavement from deteriorating from the exposure of the sun and water. Another reason is to increase the surface friction it provides. With time, traffic will eventually wear down the material and layers of pavement and sealcoating is a great way to prevent cracks from forming in the first place and extends the life of your pavement.
Small cracks are easier and inexpensive to manage and repair than large cracks. If you would like more information about this, please feel free to speak to our experts at Joe Lamacchia.
Keep an eye on your pavement and watch out for the following:
- Surface slippage
- Other imperfections
